Kate Rich and Sneha Solanki [hostexe.org] are developing a protocol for a distributed hotel system Houses of Benefit in London. While guest services (concierge, breakfast, lobby) will be centralised, we will be outsourcing bedroom locations around the central London area. Local hosts, sourced via social networks, will provide comfortable, glamorous &/or interesting accommodations to culturally-funded visitors, in exchange for cash.

The idea is based on a mutual-benefit economics, with the intention to a) undercut overblown london hotel rates; b) provide visitors with a more interesting experience than an Ibis & c) the redistribution of cultural funds by paying peer hosts direct.

We have been beta-testing the hotel September/October in London for WSFII [World Summit on Free Information Infastructures], wsfii.org Oct 1-4.
